If you’re anything like me, desserts can be such a weakness. Although I have learned that I have a fairly decent amount of willpower. My plan for desserts is such: no desserts on weekdays. That’s pretty much it. Of course, that doesn’t mean that on the weekends I eat desserts round the clock. No, I still keep moderation in mind, but having the weekday rule makes it easier.

So, if it’s the weekend, what sort of sweet treat do I crave? Most often it’s something homemade, like cookies. I personally have an affinity for frosted cookies, such as the Double Lemon Cookies pictured above. I also enjoy a nice soft sugar cookie, a snickerdoodle, or an oatmeal raisin cookie.

I can’t let the cookies get all of the spotlight. Cake is another fine choice. Personally, it’s a toss-up between wedding cake and carrot cake. There’s something about the almond flavored cake and buttercream frosting for wedding cake that I adore, while carrot cake has a delightful texture (yes, there must be walnuts and possibly raisins) and delicious cream cheese frosting.

And there are so many more options! On a hot summer weekend, there’s nothing quite like an evening drive to a local ice cream stand for a waffle cone filled with ice cream and topped with sprinkles. (Rainbow ones, of course!) While a banana split is more than my appetite can handle, the look of one is pure nostalgia.

If it’s a weekend of celebration, whether just for the two of us or a crowd, a trifle is high on my list for desserts. They’re really easy to make and have so many different options. Pick a cake flavor, pick a fruit (my personal favorite option for trifles), and pick a custard or pudding, and layer all three. For those of you who aren’t baking fans, you even can buy the cake from your local bakery.

However, there also are times when life is a busy, and I don’t have time to create a homemade dessert. That’s no reason to worry. At a time like that I simple make sure that I have American sweets in my cupboard. They have so many amazing treats to choose from, it’s easy to keep my kitchen well stocked.

Now that I’ve talked about all these amazing desserts and treats, it may be time to check my pantry and my schedule. Will there be time for baking for some weekend eating? Or will I need to check my private store of treats for some weekend indulgence?
