Grandma's Irish Soda Bread

  • 4 cups flour
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter melted
  • 2 eggs beaten
  • 1-1/2 cups buttermilk


  • Preheat oven to 350.
  • Grease 2 quart round baking dish.
  • Combine flour, baking soda, salt, and sugar in a large mixing bowl.
  • In a small bowl, combine butter, eggs, and milk.
  • Add liquid ingredients to flour mixture, and mix well.
  • Place dough in greased baking dish, and place in oven.
  • Bake for approximately 1-1/2 hours or until a toothpick inserted in the middle of the comes out clean.
