ref=”https://thinktasty1.wpengine.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/Wheelers.jpg”>Attending the Boston Wine Expo isn’t just about the wine.  Sure, there are hundreds of wineries that attend, but there are also quite a few food vendors there as well.  So, in addition to getting to sample many different wines, you also get to sample some interesting foods.  On the second day of the expo, I got to sample the most delicious treat of the weekend.

While meandering through the aisles at the expo that day, I discovered Wheeler’s Black Label Vegan Ice Cream.  It was a little after noon, and I had sampled some wine and was deciding what to do next, when there before me was a booth offering sorbet.  I arrived at the booth and was pleased to discover that there were samples of Bourdeaux Sorbet being server by the owner himself, Wheeler.

This sorbet was like none other I had eaten previously.  First, it was made with a wonderful 1999 vintage Bourdeaux (Grand Vin de Chateau Latour Premier Grand Cru Classe Paulliac to be exact).  Second, its texture was amazingly smooth.  It had a delightful taste of Bourdeaux but also the right amount of sweetness.  As I savored each bite, I spoke with Wheeler about his ice creams and sorbets.  He kindly let me know that he would be sampling his Dom Perignon Sorbet around 1:00.

While I could have stayed and talked with Wheeler for 30 more minutes, I decided I should let others chat with him and moved on to other vendors. Graciously, Wheeler sent a sample of the Champagne Sorbet to me when it was ready.  Although I planned on returning to his table, I guess he didn’t want me to miss out on my chance, and for that I am grateful.  This sorbet also had a wonderfully smooth consistency and a delicious flavor from the Dom Perignon- the perfect adults-only dessert.

Having sampled the sorbet, I decided to learn more about this company, and I discovered that Wheeler’s Black Label Vegan Ice Cream is quite interesting.  Formed twelve years ago in Paris, Wheeler started with two flavors:  Dom Perignon and Snakebite (lemon-lime & Yukon Jack).  Since that time, the company has grown to 5,000 different flavors.  In addition to offering an astronomical number of flavors, all of their products are all natural, healthy and animal free.

Their ice cream and sorbets can be found at many events, in addition to the Boston Wine Expo.  While they don’t have a shop at which you can purchase their products, you can do so via email, and they will ship out the ice cream within 24hours… And, yes, it will still be frozen and very tasty!  Additionally, Wheeler has a book filled with his recipes, The Vegan Scoop, if you want to try making his recipes at your own home.
