Macaroni and cheese, a go-to dish for a quick dinner in lots of families, gets a little more attention, plus touches of both sweet and smoky flavors, in this recipe from the Cabernet Inn B&B in North Conway, New Hampshire. National Cheese Lover’s Day is coming up on January 20th — but this would be a good cooking project and a comforting, filling supper for any cold winter weekend evening. If you haven’t tried cooking with pancetta or panko before, see how they can add a welcome crispness to a pasta dish like this.

  3. Stir in 3 tablespoons butter; allow to melt and add flour and stir one minute.
  4. Gradually whisk in 3 ½ cups milk; simmer until thick enough to coat spoon thickly, stirring frequently, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat. Whisk in cheeses and maple syrup.
