Sometimes business travel is all work. Sitting through long meetings, hurrying through short lunches, trying to find a place to work between meetings, none of those are fun or exciting. However, every once in a while there is a perk to the travel. Recently, I was able to coordinate my and my husband’s business travel so that we could go to NYC together and spend part of the weekend there. A major victory in the world of scheduling!
After a full day of meetings on Friday, we planned a Saturday filled with fun-for-us events: a workout at the gym together, leisurely…
Some days feel surreal. A recent Saturday was one such day. After a fabulous breakfast at a diner in Portsmouth, NH, a meeting, a quick stop by home, and a 5-hour car ride, I found myself having a very late lunch/pre-dinner snack at Pershing Square in Manhattan. Of course, surreal doesn’t mean anything about the trip was bad. I mean, how bad can a combination work/fun trip to NYC be? Based on my experience, not bad at all.
We arrived at Pershing Square about 4:00. As…
My husband and I traveled to Portsmouth this past weekend for a Saturday meeting. While we could have driven there that morning, we made a last minute decision to head out the night before. What better way to spend a hot summer night, then walk the downtown of a coastal city and enjoy some good food and music? Unfortunately, the food was lackluster, but the music was great.
The next morning we didn’t have time for a slow, decadent breakfast, or so we thought. Our hotel offerings…
A few weeks ago, I was fortunate to have a weekend of celebrating my birthday. The actual event was on Saturday, but the celebrations began with cake on Friday night, continued with breakfast in bed on Saturday, and culminated with a romantic dinner for two on Saturday night. As an adult, I don’t know the last time I had this much fanfare for my birthday. There could be a reason behind this, as this birthday was one that ended in a zero. . .
The dinner for two was planned by my husband. Although we have a handful of wonderful upscale…
There are two great signs that you are at a fabulous barbecue joint: a line out the door and an atmosphere that is eclectic. Andy Nelson’s Southern Pit Barbecue is a big win on both counts. This past weekend, two of my children and I were looking for a place to have ribs in the Towson area of Maryland. We were lucky enough to stumble upon Andy Nelson’s place in Cockeysville.
As we drove into the lot for the establishment, my son and daughter both…
After a winter of planning weekend spent indoors with food simmering on the stove all day long, it is wonderful to have sunshine, warm weather, and snow-free roads. Although it is quite nice to spend a day at home, by early March, cabin fever is rampant. So, on a recent Saturday, my husband and I made plans to spend most of the day exploring antique and consignment shops. Of course, being foodies, dining is an important element to our day. After some online searching…
As a student I never was late in completing assignments, which makes me wonder how I could be so delayed in writing a review of Stella Blu. My husband and I first dined there within a day or two of it opening in October 2008. We loved our drinks and food. We have returned numerous times, but it wasn’t until last Friday night that it occurred to me: I hadn’t written a review. This was a huge error on my behalf, but one which I now am…
Although I have categorized this article as a restaurant review, I have to admit that it isn’t a full review. Yes, my husband and I have been to Agave in both Portsmouth, NH, and Newburyport, MA, but we ordered the same dish and same drinks at each visit. However, and this is a big however, that dish and those drinks are well worth a review of their own.
We made our first visit to the Portsmouth location, Agave Mexican Bistro Dos, last July. Enjoying a couple’s weekend in this coastal city, we spent Saturday evening strolling the downtown. We discovered…
A couple weeks ago, my husband and I discovered a wonderful new café in downtown Manchester. As we were on our way to watch our 13 year old son at a wrestling tournament, we didn’t have time for more than coffee and pastries. However, we told ourselves that we would return in the near future, which we did with two of our children. As we had two budding foodies in our midst, it seemed most appropriate to write this review as a group. So, in addition…
When my wife and I go out for dinner, we want to try new things and explore the world of food and drink. So, when something promotes itself as a “test kitchen”, we expect risk taking by the chefs/owners. Sadly, we experienced the wrong type of adventure when we went to the Legal Seafood Test Kitchen in Boston this past weekend.
We were in Boston for the 19th annual Boston Wine Expo,* and after a Saturday filled with great wine, smart foodie conversation, and tantalizing cooking demonstrations, we decided to go to the Legal Seafood Test Kitchen for a…
