Wedding Cake

by TT on August 22nd, 2011 | Desserts, Recipes
There are two types of cake that vie for the position of favorite cake.  One of those is carrot cake, which I adore for its moist texture and sweet yet savory frosting.  The other is wedding cake, which I've enjoyed since I was a little girl who got to try a piece when my parents returned from a wedding.  For a long time I wondered exactly what it was about this cake that gave it a special taste.  In recent years, as I expanded my culinary experimentation, I discovered that almond extract gave the cake its je ne sais

Blueberry Crisp

by TT on July 27th, 2011 | Desserts, Recipes
Blueberry season is in full swing.  My husband and I have made three trips to our local pick-your-own farm to stock our home for the next year, which means we've had a few busy days.  We spent two Saturdays picking a dozen or so pounds and making blueberry jam and salsa, which means that we have almost twenty jars of jam and a few jars of salsa.  We also have multiple quarts of frozen blueberries.  Sure, it means we dedicate a good portion of the day to picking and cooking, but we like working in the kitchen, so for us

by TT on April 21st, 2011 | Desserts
All of the recipes I post on Think Tasty are either creations of my own or recipes handed down in my family.  That makes today's recipe unique.  Because although I have used this recipe, it is not my creation nor is it a family heirloom.  Rather this is a recipe graciously shared by Chef Butters of Butter Café & Bakery in Walpole, Massachusetts.

I made these peeps last weekend with my 13 year old daughter.  Be forewarned, these are messy, as you are creating homemade marshmallows.  However, while they are still warm, the marshmallow mixture makes a lovely indoor s'more if

Beet Cake

by TT on March 23rd, 2011 | Desserts, Recipes
This recipe was one where I really wasn’t sure what the end results would be.  We had a great amount of beets that needed to be used.  While I love roasting them either as a side dish or a topping for a salad, not everyone else is as keen on the idea of beets as a daily menu item.  So, what is one to do with extra beets?

Deciding to try a creative approach, I opted to use them in a cake batter.  All of us enjoy carrot cake.  Shredded carrots, walnuts, cinnamon, and cream cheese frosting combined, how can you
