As I mentioned recently, this time of year I stop by local orchards on a weekly basis. When I went to an orchard a couple weeks ago, I decided to check out their winter squash offerings. With cool weather making itself permanent, I have been craving squash. However, I tend to stick with the same squash time and again: butternut or acorn. So, when I arrived at the orchard, my goal was clear- any squash but those two!
This large orchard did not disappoint me. They had quite an assortment of squash available. I immediately knew I would pass on the

As I mentioned recently, braised meats tend to be a fairly common dinner item in our house as of late. However, that doesn't mean that there are leftovers, which is unfortunate. I thoroughly enjoy having wraps for lunch and find that leftover braised chicken or beef makes a great starting point for a wrap.
Last week, we had Pulled Coconut Chicken for dinner, and even with eight of us dining, we had a decent amount left. With coconut chicken in mind, I headed to the grocery store to find other fillings for my wrap. To compliment the coconut flavor, I

I love to use a sprinkling of vinegar as dressing quite often. We usually have an assortment of vinegars: champagne, cider, orange muscat, red wine, balsamic. Using only vinegar on a salad produces a light topping with a bit of a bite.
Last week I decided to make salad a main course dish for my husband and me. With fall's arrival, I began to think of seasonal foods that would be available. One of the fall ingredients that I love to use is cranberries. However, I hadn't seen any fresh cranberries in our grocery store yet, so I settled with cranberry

With my husband traveling on business last week, all of the parenting responsibilities were mine, which meant a lot of time was spent driving children to their activities. So, in the interest of my sanity, I decided to take a shortcut or two in my cooking.
One night we had homemade pizza for dinner, so rather than making the dough, I bought a ball of dough at the grocery store. With only two kids at home, this was enough dough to make their pizzas. Not needing another whole ball of dough for my pizza, I decided to use a piece of

Parmesan Haddock

Last week when I asked our eleven year old daughter what she wanted for dinner, she requested haddock and green beans. For some kids that might mean fish sticks and canned veggies but not our daughter. Nope, she wants fish from the seafood counter that we bread lightly and fresh green beans that are steamed until crisp-tender. With a request like that I was more than happy to add these items to my grocery list.
This week when I sought dinner ideas from her she again requested haddock and green beans. Now, while I am thrilled with her healthy choices, eating
