ref=”https://thinktasty1.wpengine.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/Strawberry-Cupcakes.jpg”>This week many restaurants and bakeries in the Greater Boston area will be participating in 2011 Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer.  In partnership with Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer has a sweet goal in mind: sell baked good with profits being given to breast cancer research.

This year over 270 restaurants and bakeries will be participating in this week-long event.  Starting today, May 2nd, and continuing until May 8th, you can know that one hundred percent of the profits from select sweets will be given to research.  Who could resist eating a little treat, especially knowing that the profits are going to a good cause?  To give you a virtual taste of some of the offerings, read on:

  • Whoopie Pies– City Table at the Lenox Hotel in Boston
  • Strawberry Shortcakes (topped with maserated strawberries and vanilla ice cream)- Not Your Average Joe’s in Boston and surrounding communities
  • Farmers Custard– Henrietta’s Table at the Charles Hotel in Cambridge

Of course, with 270 participants, there will be many more  fine sweets to sample.  In addition to dining or shopping at one of the participating locations, there are several other options available.  If you don’t like dessert (gasp!), you can simply make an online donation.  Also, some of the participating bakeries and restaurants will ship desserts directly to you.  Finally, you can hold your own bake sale to keep the sweet act of giving active.

Do something to help others, and have a little indulgence of your own.  To learn more about Boston Bakes for Cancer, or to find a participating restaurant or bakery, click here.
