Battle of the Cheesesteaks

by TT on May 17th, 2012 | Restaurant Reviews
The last week of April we took two of our teens on a combined work/pleasure trip to the mid-Atlantic region.  With a schedule of a few meetings here, a little sightseeing there, we were able to enjoy the kids' week off from school while maintaining a relaxed business schedule.  Journeying down the Atlantic coast, we made stops in Baltimore and Philadelphia.

Of course, one of our purposes for visiting Philly was to see historic sites.  However, I'd be fibbing if I didn't admit that an equally as important purpose was to eat cheesesteaks at Geno's and Pat's.  I know, a

China Blossom, North Andover, MA

by TT on January 19th, 2012 | Restaurant Reviews
This past Sunday I was invited to dine at China Blossom with a guest.  Thus, I asked my husband to join me for an evening of what I hoped would be good dining.

We arrived shortly before our reservation time of 7:00.  The restaurant was busy, with most of the tables full.  We were able to be seated early and were given a booth.  We had the option of ordering off the menu or partaking in the buffet, and we chose the menu.  Within moments, we were greeted by our waiter who provided water and took our drink order.

Burtons Grill, Nashua, NH

by TT on January 4th, 2012 | Restaurant Reviews
Although Burtons Grill opened at the Pheasant Lane Mall in August, I didn't have (or make) the opportunity to visit it until mid-December.  With lots of presents to be bought at that time of year, I knew I would be spending a decent amount of time at the mall.  With a little planning, I could make the trip into a shopping and dining experience.  As luck and a little bit of scheduling would have it, I was able to dine at Burtons twice within a two-week period.

My first trip to Burtons Grill was on a Friday night.  I

Atlantic Fish Company, Boston, MA

by TT on December 5th, 2011 | Restaurant Reviews
Black Friday was an exciting day at our house but not because we were dashing to early morning (late night?) sales.  It was exciting because there were no sporting events, practices, or work meetings to attend.  As we knew all of this weeks in advance, we planned to take our kids to Boston for the day.  The plan was to visit a museum or two and browse the shops on Newbury Street.  While it was a wonderful day, our thirteen year old daughter and I never made it to the art museum.  The lure of visiting more shops was

Charleston, Baltimore, MD

by TT on November 4th, 2011 | Restaurant Reviews
During a summer trip to Baltimore, my husband and I spent one evening strolling the Inner Harbor.  With a simple plan of walking and occasionally stopping for a cocktail and a snack, we found many enjoyable restaurants.  Our last stop of the night was at Charleston.  Upon entering, the restaurant emanated a luxurious atmosphere.  We enjoyed an hour or so in their lounge, speaking with our waitress and sampling a dish.  We knew that we would need to return for a full evening of dining.

Two weeks ago we had the good fortune to travel to Baltimore on business and

XO on Elm

by TT on October 25th, 2011 | Restaurant Reviews
A little over a month ago, my husband and I attended the annual wine tasting and auction for the Palace Theatre.  It was a fabulous evening of (You guessed it!) wine tasting that ended with an auction.  Of course, there were other pieces to this evening, such as some beautiful art and delicious food samples from local restaurants.  We participated in one of the raffles, which netted us a gift certificate to XO on Elm.  This restaurant has been on our need-to-try list for a while, and the certificate was the nudge we needed to go.

Dinners in Hana – Part I

by TT on October 16th, 2008 | Restaurant Reviews
Reading our Maui tour guide, I began to realize how remote of a location Hana was.  Reviewing the dining in Hana, our guide listed three restaurants.  And, to add to the lack of choices, they strongly advised skipping one of the restaurants.  Having experienced mediocre dining in Lahaina, I was wondering if we would be pretty hungry during our stay in Hana.

Fortunately, we had the best food of the trip in Hana.  Staying at the Hotel Hana-Maui, we experienced three nights of wonderful dinners and three mornings of delicious breakfasts.

On our first night at the hotel, we saw a Chef's

Dinners in Lahaina

by TT on October 15th, 2008 | Restaurant Reviews
Let me start this post by confessing that my husband and I are foodies.  However, we also are willing to pay more to receive great food.  So, when we dine at a restaurant, we are looking for flavorful food that is presented well.  Sadly, during our stay on the west side of Maui, we didn't find many exciting restaurants.

Arriving in the late afternoon, we decided to dine at Cascades Restaurant and Sushi Bar within the Hyatt at which we were staying.  While the food was sufficient, it wasn't the superior food that one would expect at a hotel such as

Review: Longboards, Ka’anapali, HI

by TT on October 14th, 2008 | Restaurant Reviews

On a Thursday in Hawaii, we decided to start our night a little later and began our walk down the beach path around 7. We had seen a restaurant named Longboards that looked quite appealing the previous day, as it had outdoor seating with beach chairs in the sand and small tables on a terrace.

When we arrived, we were told that it was a 30 minute wait. In no hurry, we agreed and found comfortable chairs in the lounge area. Asking a couple who sat near us if there were waitstaff in this area, they said no.

Review: Gaylord’s at Kilohana, Lihue, HI

by TT on October 7th, 2008 | Restaurant Reviews

While staying on Kauai, Gaylord’s came recommended as an excellent restaurant that served Hawaiian fare. It was indicated that this restaurant offered upscale dining. Being foodies in search of excellent local fare, we made a reservation for dinner.

Arriving after dark, it was a little confusing to find both the entrance for

Review: Keoki’s Paradise, Poipu Beach, HI

by TT on October 1st, 2008 | Restaurant Reviews
Traveling to Kauai for the first half of our honeymoon, we have enjoyed many meals of fine dining.  Every day has begun with an incredible buffet at the Grand Hyatt, so we have not needed lunch after such an indulgence.  However, today we drove to Waimea Canyon and hiked about 3 1/2 miles, half of which was uphill and steep.

So, after a good workout, we were craving lunch.  Having heard good things about the fish sandwiches at Keoki's Paradise, we stopped there on our return trip to our hotel.  Although almost every restaurant on this island is fairly casual, this
